CEO Darrell Bricker has been with Ipsos since 1990. He holds a PhD in Political Science from Carleton University and a BA and MA from Wilfred Laurier. Prior to joining Ipsos, he was Director of Research in the office of Canada’s Prime Minister.

For the past 50 years, statisticians, pundits and politicians have warned that a burgeoning planetary population will soon overwhelm the earth’s resources, but a growing number of experts are sounding the alarm that global population is headed in the opposite direction, heavily influenced by declining birth rates around the world.

In Empty Planet, Darrell’s sixth book, he and John Ibbitson present a rigorously researched and deeply compelling vision of the future, drawing attention to the consequences of global depopulation including worker shortages, weakened economies and crippling demands on healthcare and social security. The authors suggest that we can no longer prevent this future, but we can shape it, if we choose.
