I am an author, essayist, former podcaster, and occasional commentator. I am a professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). I started working there in August 2006. I was visiting scholar at Massey College, University of Toronto in the last half of 2013 and visiting professor at the George Mason University School of Public Policy during the winter term of 2014. In the fall term of 2018, I was visiting scholar in the Political Science Department of Boston University. I am also a Senior Fellow at the Bill Graham Centre for Contemporary International History at the University of Toronto and a Senior Fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, an Ottawa-based policy think tank.
My main research interests are political and public sector leadership, the process of political development, and the study of elections. I also write about diverse aspects of institutionalism and the policy development process.
