Marrying the Art of Winemaking with the Business of Wine

Australian native Craig McDonald has an extensive background in the art of winemaking having made wines in Oregon (Sokol Blosser), Australia (Penfolds & De Bortoli), New Zealand (Villa Maria) and Ontario. Over the past 20 years he has participated in 28 vintages, 17 of them in Niagara. Craig spent 8 years at Creekside Winery in Vineland before moving to Trius in Niagara-on-the-Lake in 2010. He was recognized as Ontario Winemaker of the Year in 2008 and in 2016. He is also the founding winemaker and creator of Wayne Gretzky Wines.

In 2016 Craig was named Vice-President, Winemaking for Andrew Peller Limited. While retaining Senior Winemaker responsibilities at Trius he now oversees winemaking activities at all wineries in the Peller family – Peller, Thirty Bench, Trius and Wayne Gretzky in Ontario and Black Hills, Calona, Grey Monk, Red Rooster, Sandhill and Tinhorn Creek in BC.
