Hugh Segal has been active in foreign and security policy for over 30 years and has chaired the Senate Foreign Affairs and Special Anti-Terrorism committees and the Canadian Institute for Strategic Studies. He was Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Brian Mulroney in the 1990’s, and in 2005 was appointed to the Senate by Prime Minister Paul Martin where he represented Ontario for 9 years. He was elected the fifth Master of Massey College in December 2013.
