Ted Barris

Award-Winning Journalist, Author and Broadcaster

“Rush to Danger: Medics in the Line of Fire”

(Longlisted for the 2020 RBC Taylor Prize for Non-Fiction)

For almost 50 years Ted Barris’s writing has appeared in the national press and in a wide range of magazines. He has also worked as host/contributor for most CBC Radio programs and on TV Ontario. After 18 years of teaching, he retired in 2017 from his position as a full-time professor of journalism at Centennial College.

Ted is the author of 19 bestselling non-fiction books, the latest of which is Rush to Danger: Medics in the line of Fire.

Throughout the winter of 1945, Ted’s father, 22-year old sergeant medic Alex Barris, waged a battle night and day to save lives in the middle of the Battle of the Bulge, the bloodiest campaign that the US Army faced during the liberation of Europe.

Ted’s pursuit of his father’s story led to the unique front-line recounting in Rush to Danger of the experiences of military medics, field surgeons, nursing sisters, stretcher-bearers, orderlies and ambulance drivers in war zones over the past 160 years. Ted explores the evolution of battlefield medicine and reveals why men and women sporting the red cross on their helmets and sleeves don’t flee to safety but choose instead to rush to assist.

Different Drummer Books will be present with a selection of Ted’s books – Ted will be pleased to sign all purchases.
