2025

September 24 – Ted Barris – an award-winning journalist, author, and broadcaster. His writing has regularly appeared in the national press, and magazines as diverse as Air Force, esprit de corps and Zoomer. He has also worked as host/contributor for most CBC Radio network programs, NPR in the U.S. and on TV Ontario. He taught journalism at Toronto’s Centennial College for 18 years. A consistent favorite of our Canadian Club audiences, Ted will be speaking about his latest book “The Battle of Britain: Canadian Airmen in their finest hour.”    NOTE: this is a Wednesday. 

October 16 – Dr. Frances McCarthy – (BSc, PhD Dalhousie U., MSc U. of Toronto) – Professor of Earth Sciences and Member, Environmental Sustainability Research Centre, Brock University. She is leading an international team of scientists at Crawford Lake, Halton Conservation Authority, to examine ancient sediments in order to precisely identify the beginnings of the human impact on earth’s geology,  The ‘golden spike’ to define the Anthropocene” Dr. McCarthy will discuss the significance of her research.

November 20 – Ardra Shepherd – an award winning blogger and podcaster (Tripping on Air), the creator and host of AMI-TV’s Fashion Dis, winner of the 2023 Screen International Global Production Award in Cannes, a trailblazing advocate for the MS and disability communities, and she is one of over a million people in North America with Multiple Sclerosis. “Fallosophy:  My trip through life with MS.” 

2026

January 15 – Christopher DiCarlo – philosopher, educator, and author. He is the Principal and Founder of Critical Thinking Solutions, a consulting business for individuals, corporations, and not-for-profits in both the private and public sectors. He currently holds the position of Senior Researcher and Ethicist at Convergence Analysis – an international organization focusing on AI Risk and Governance. Building a God: The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and the Race to Control It”

February 19 – Dr. Saskia Sivananthan – Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, The Brainwell Institute a nonprofit dementia research and policy think tank. She is also an Affiliate Professor at McGill University and the former Chief Knowledge Officer at the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Dr. Saskia is an internationally recognized expert on dementia care.

March 26 – Ron MacLean – Host, Hockey Night in Canada on Sportsnet – MacLean’s extensive knowledge and passion for the game of hockey, combined with 30 years of hosting Hockey Night in Canada and Rogers Hometown Hockey, has made him one of the country’s most famous and beloved broadcasters. In 2015, MacLean was inducted to Canada’s Walk of Fame. Presentation topic to come.

April 16 – Patrice Dutil – author, commentator, podcaster and occasional activist. Professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Ryerson University. He is the author of several books, his latest, “Sir John A. McDonald and the Apocalyptic Year 1885″ In reviews it is described as “A splendid biography by one of Canada’s most respected political scientists.”
